Spring 2010 we decided to add an additional 50 more chicks.
They started laying at 4 months.  The organic eggs sell well at
the farmers markets and local stores.  So we got our USDA
license to wholesale eggs.
This is how the 50
chicks arrived.  They
are called Golden
Buffs.  They arrived on
Feb 24th so they lived
in our bathtub for a
couple of weeks before
they got so big we had
to move them to the
chicken house.  There
are 3 males in box, can
you fine them?
They are 3 days old in the
picture to the right.  Below is
their first home.  They weren't
very happy to be moved but
they loved the extra space.

water cooler!
We hatched 6 guinea hens the
spring of 2008.  They will be
additional guards around the
farm when they get a bit bigger.
Here are the guinea hens as of
Spring 2010.  We have 9 guineas
today.  They fly all over the farm
and eat the ticks and weed seeds.
It's nice to have them on the farm.

Here they are, March 15th.  Today
is their first day to fly up to the
perch.  Notice they are all on the
top perch, 24 inches off the
ground.
These chickens are part of the 100 we received last
summer.
